07/31/12 Wenatchee Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Forced to Close
Three medical marijuana dispensaries in the Wenatchee area have closed down after federal prosecutors sent a letter to the businesses' landlords. The letter sent by Eastern Washington U.S. Attorney Michael Ormsby threatened to seize the properties and threatened to fine or imprison the landlords if they did not close the shops within a few weeks. Federal Law supercedes the new State law that allows for the medicinal use of marijuana and the establishment of collective gardens. Dispensary operator Eric Cooper says the letters prompted three existing shops to close immediately. The operator of a fourth collective in the area is staying open a little longer but also intends to close on Saturday.
