Charges may be filed in connection with the Crane Road Fire. Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal says the blaze is believed to have been caused by workers attempting to burn weeds at an organic orchard. Gjesdal says it appears an orchard worker was burning weeds in between rows of fruit trees. While the workers took precautions by watering the orchard, the fire spread to the dry grass. A burn ban is in effect in Douglas County and Gjesdal says there is no evidence the orchard had a permit to burn. The case will be sent to the prosecuting attorney's office to determine if the weed burning fell within exceptions to the burn ban.
