The Mt. Barney Fire, near the head of Falls Creek is now estimated at 50 acres. Officials with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest say the blaze, north of Winthrop, lies about one mile from the boundary of the Pasayten Wilderness, and is burning in steep terrain. Fire managers say crews completed handline around the perimeter of the fire Saturday. The plan for today is to reinforce lines around spot fires on the ground and from the air. Cooler conditions forecast for the next few days are expected to help firefighters battling the blaze.
