The Taylor Bridge Fire near Cle Elum has burned an estimated 22,600 acres and is 25 percent contained. Fire officials say fire activity Wednesday was erratic and mainly wind driven from the northwest. The blaze made an advance north of the windfarm and east of S.R. 97 where firefighters were able to stop the spread. Fire managers say crews Thursday are focusing efforts along the Hidden Valley area to the Bettas Valley area. Crews continue to patrol around structures checking for hotspots. Burn out operations today will take place along S.R. 10 between the S.R. 97 junction and Swauk Creek. About 900 firefighters are battling the blaze on the ground and air attack resources will continue to work along the northern border of the fire.
Fire managers report that some level three evacuation areas this afternoon were reduced to a level 2. Along the east portion of the fire, some roads are now accessible to local traffic and residents.
A level 3 evacuation order remains in place for the following areas: Lauderdale area at the SR 970 and ST 97 junction, Bettas Valley area, homes on the west side of SR 97 between SR 97 and Swauk, the Hidden Valley area, and Elks Springs Road.
