According to statistics from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, August is the deadliest month on our state's highways, when it comes to driving under the influence. Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett says part of that is because some people drink more when it's hot and also because too many people drink and drive while they are on summer trips. To help crack down on people driving under the influence, the Chelan and Douglas County Sheriff's offices, Wenatchee and East Wenatchee police departments, and state patrol are taking part in extra emphasis patrols. Those started a couple of weeks ago and wrap up on Labor Day.
