(AP) - The Washington Transportation Department says 67,000 vehicles a day used the stretch of Interstate 5 through Mount Vernon that is now blocked by the collapse of the Skagit River bridge. Mount Vernon is about 60 miles north of Seattle and 40 miles south of the Canada Border. The roadblock on both directions of I-5 is expected to cause a major disruption in trade and tourism between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia. The Transportation Department has set up detours. The closest is within sight of the I-5 bridge and mostly used for local traffic between Mount Vernon and Burlington. 08/31/12 Piliot Makes Emergency Landing

A 66 year old pilot was able to walk away unhurt after he made an emergency landing, without landing gear, just south of Azwell dam Friday. Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett says Max Harshman had taken off from the Chelan Airport around 11-30am. Harshman says he was flying the single engine plane at approximately five thousand feet when the plane's engine died. Realizing he would not make it back to the Chelan Airport, Burnett says the pilot located a roadway in the 500 block of Azwell Road, a few miles south of Pateros. Burnett says the plane came to rest near an outbuilding and gas pumps, however there is no personal property damage reported at this time. The FAA is handling the investigation
