Search and rescue officials have been kept busy this summer. Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett says in addition to the swift water rescues, and rock climbing accidents, the Sheriff's office has helped several hikers who've become lost or injured in the backcountry. Burnett says it's important to be prepared for the worst. While that won't guarantee a safe outing, it greatly increases your odds.
Burnett says some tips for hikers, don't go alone, tell people where you are going and when you plan to return, pack a GPS and spot beacon, and know how to use them.
