A level three evacuation notice is in effect Sunday morning for an estimated 35 homes in the Sage Hills neighborhood and areas west, up number one canyon, west of Wenatchee. As of last report the Canyons Fire was estimated at 200 acres. Susan Peterson with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests says while Chelan County Fire District one is the lead agency on the Canyons blaze, several agencies are involved.
Peterson says the Forest Service's fire map looks "like a Christmas tree" with more than 600 lightning strikes reported.
The largest fire is a 60 acre blaze that started Saturday night up Williams Canyon near Dryden. Peterson says while that was not contained by 10 am Sunday, crews had made good progress on the fire.
Kent Sisson with the Chelan County Sheriffs office says unfortunately a lot of people have been driving up number one canyon to get a better look at the fire. He's asking people to stay out of the area unless they need to be there. Sage Hills Road is closed to all but local traffic. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
