09/09/12 140 Homes Threatened By Canyons Fire

Its clear that lightning from Saturday's storm struck a little too close to home for most residents living in the valley as the Canyons Fire continues to rage on near homes in the One and Two Canyons. Many households were asked to leave with a level 3 evacuation in place.Fire spokesman and Wenatchee Police Sgt John Kruse says the shifting winds blew in some unfortunate circumstances Sunday Night. . .

Kruse says many of the homes west of Surrey are under a level three evacuation . . .

Living on Surrey Road is Jannike (YAH-na-KAH) Hendrickson who says the sight of the fire alone was enough for her to get back home quickly . . .

Living close to the evacuation area is Grason Hagopian (HAH-gope-EE-an). He recalls the fire's path throughout the day (Sunday). . .

As of Sunday night . . . 40 homes fell under a Level 3 evacuation. An additional 100 households were asked to leave at a moment's notice under a level 2 evacuation.Out of all these homes . . .Kruse says none sustained any damage but one outbuilding did burn down.Fire officials say crews from Chelan . . .Douglas and Grant counties will battle the blaze throughout the night.Kruse says there's been no definitive information on containment because crews are doing all they can to protect homes.
