The 700 acre Byrd wild fire is the reason why homes in the Oklahoma Gulch area are vacating.
The fire started Saturday during a lightning storm.
The fire now burns brush and sage close to highway 97A a few miles north of Entiat.
Due to the fire's intensity. . .Forest Spokeswoman Robin Demario is advising that you be on the alert when driving past the fire . . .
97A was closed southbound at milepost 223 in the Stayman Flats area and northbound at mile marker 218 three miles north of Entiat at Earthquake Point.
Crews also closed down Oklahoma Gulch Road.
Fire officials have had no word on containment.
No word on how many structures are being threatened at this time.
