Douglas County didn't escape the wrath of Saturday's lightning storm. Two large grass fires threaten homes in the Coulee Dam and Leahy Junction areas. The two fires combined have razed over 30 thousand acres of tinder-dry grass and shrubs. Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal says there have been reports of structure damage including several power poles and a home in the Leahy Junction area. Sheriff Gjesdal says a Type-2 Incident Management team will assume control at 6 tonight. Douglas County Commissioners have declared an emergency which will help the County receive compensation from the State for the costs associated with the fire.
