09/18/12 Crews Start Major Burnout on Poison Canyon Fire (AUDIO)
Crews are preparing a major assault on the Wenatchee Complex Fire today which will bring some changes to evacuation levels for areas near Cashmere and Blewett Pass. Mick Mueller says burnout operations were conducted on the Poison Creek fire west of Cashmere. That will continue today which has also required residents living in Camas Meadows, Briskey Canyon and Skyview Meadows road to be placed under level-2 evacuation status.
Meanwhile Mueller says crews also made good progress with burnout operations on the south flank of the fire in the Peavine Canyon easing the threat to homes in the Mission Ridge and Number Two Canyons. Mueller reported the first creek fire spotted over the lines last night but crews were able to stop the spread. Elsewhere on the Byrd Canyon fire, evacuation advisories were reduced to level two in the Davis and Johnson Road areas. Highway 971 was also re-opened last night.
