09/19/12 Wenatchee HS Principal Responds to Smoke Concerns (AUDIO)
So far, so good at Wenatchee High School in relation to the fires and the smoke. Principal Mike Franza says no classes have been cancelled, and the building and facility itself is handling the air situation better this week, although last week he says it was possible to see smoke in the building: Speaking on Tuesday's KPQ Afternoon Update, Franza says absentee rates have returned to a more normal level from last Friday when 15 percent of the students didn't show up. Monday and Tuesday absentee rates were around 8 percent. Some parents have questioned why Wenatchee and Eastmont schools have remained open while Cashmere schools have been shut down until Friday. As to the status of Friday's Bridge of Sportsmanship trophy game against Eastmont, Franza says they're hoping to play the game in the Apple Bowl, although the field at Moses Lake has been reserved just in case. He hopes a final decision can be made no later than tomorrow.
Here is the entire interview with Principal Franza from Tuesday's KPQ Afternoon Update with Ken Johannessen and Shawn Goggins.
