10/02/12 Douglas County Severs Chelan County Jail Contract (AUDIO)



Douglas County has decided to sever its ties with the Chelan County Regional Jail. Commissioner Steve Jenkins announced on today's KPQ Morning Update that the County can't afford the bed rental rates at the Chelan County facility and that efforts to negotiate changes failed. He indicated that relocating prisoners to Okanogan County should result in cost savings in the long run
In an unrelated development Commissioners also reported that Martin Hall will continue operations as a regional juvenile jail after the ownership consortium voted last thursday to keep the facility open. The nine counties that own Martin Hall had considered mothballing the facility at Medical Lake due to decreasing jail population.
