The city of Wenatchee is appealing a Chelan County Superior Court decision over the city's collecting taxes from Chelan County PUD water customers who live within city limits. Mayor Frank Kuntz says hundreds of thousands of dollars are at stake.
Kuntz says he believes the city code allows them to impose a tax on business activity within city limits. The PUD argued that state law prevents governmental agencies from taxing another, unless a specific law allows it. Kuntz says he expects the appeal to be heard sometime next year. Until that time he says he'll continue to work with PUD officials to find a solution that both sides can agree on.
