Homeowners in the Forest Ridge Subdivision near Mission Ridge Ski resort were well prepared when the Peavine Canyon Fire threatened their properties last month. Jerry Holm says the homeowners have been working over the past several years to make their community firesafe. Part of the advance planning was the establishment of an emergency phone-tree with Chelan County Fire District One chief Mike Burnett.
Chief Burnett joined Jerry Holm on Friday's KPQ ITs Your Turn program. It was Burnett who asked for State assistance when the fire exploded following a September 8th lightning storm. Burnett says the State Fire Marshall was stunned by what he saw while flying over the fire .
To show their thanks to the firefighters, the Forest Ridge Homeowners are raising money to help pay for a new infrared camera for Chelan County Fire District 1. Their goal is to raise 5 thousand dollars for the equipment.
