WENATCHEE, Wash. – There’s no place like home. After playing 14 straight road games to begin the 2012-13 season, the Wild opened home play Friday with a 3-1 victory over the Minot Minotauros at the Town Toyota Center.
After a scoreless first period, Chris Jones put the Wild up 1-0 near the midpoint of the second frame on a pass from Max McHugh. McHugh doubled Wenatchee’s lead a little over seven minutes later when he knocked in a rebound from the near side of the cage off a shot by Noah Nelson. Jones earned the second assist on the sequence.
Jacob Barber gave the Wild a 3-0 lead 45 seconds into the second period. On a 3-on-2 rush into the offensive zone, Barber scored on a high wrister from the left wing.
Wild goalie Robert Nichols was on his way to earning his third shutout of the season until Ryan Doner lit the lamp for the Minotauros with 2:11 remaining in regulation. Paul Sorenson earned the lone assist on what would be Minot’s only goal of the game.
The Wild (12-2-1) will try to sweep the Minotauros Saturday. Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m. Pre-game on KYSN, 97.7 FM starts at about 6:45 p.m.
