10/31/12 Superstorm Impacts NCW Fruit Industry (AUDIO)
Washington's tree fruit industry is feeling the affects of Superstorm Sandy. Tony Freitag with Cashmere-based Crunch Pak tells KPQ News that the company's distribution network along the atlantic coast has been disrupted by the storm.
Crunch Pak makes about 2 million apple slices a day and more than 1 billion apple slices a year. Its the largest sliced apple producer in the United States. The storm will also have an impact on the sale and shipment of fresh apples and pears to the Eastcoast but industry officials contacted by KPQ say it will be awhile before they can fully assess the situation.
