Work to combine the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Wenatchee Valley Visitors Bureau looks to continue, now that a funding source for tourism promotion looks to be secured for 2013. The city of Wenatchee Lodging Tax Advisory Committee Thursday night voted to recommend that the Wenatchee city council allocate 100 percent of the hotel-motel tax funding available, an estimated 340 thousand dollars, to the Chamber of Commerce. Jennifer Korfiatis, who sits on the Chamber's board, says the Chamber and Bureau's boards voted a couple of weeks ago to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding to work together. A lot of that hinged on whether they would receive the Hotel-Motel tax funds to pay for tourism promotion.
Korfiatis says other cities have tourism promotion undertaken by the Chamber of Commerce.
Korfiatis says one of their top priorities as the plan moves forward is finding an executive director to head the combined organization.
