Good news for Chelan County PUD power customers, no electric rate increases are planned for next year. Mark O'Brien, the PUD's Director of Strategic Financial Planning provided PUD Commissioners with the 2013 preliminary budget.
O'Brien says PUD operating expenses are projected to be around $121.8 million, a three point seven percent increase over the 2012 budget. In addition, capital spending is expected to be at or below the budget target of $48 million. O'Brien says the budget includes possible rate increases of six percent for the PUD's five thousand water customers and 15 percent for its 450 waste-water customers. Those could kick in next April, however any rate increases would first need to go through a public hearing. A second budget hearing is set for November 19th, with final board approval possible at the board's December 3rd meeting.
