Wenatchee's red light cameras are becoming political fodder for Tim Eyman's latest initiative campaign. I-517 aims to allow the public to vote on local initiatives without court interference, such as the effort to force the removal of Wenatchee's red-light cameras. The Courts ruled that the City Council, not the voters have the decision making authority in such matters. Wenatchee Mayor Frank Kuntz says he would prefer the court's rule on the legality of Eyman's initiatives before holding a city-wide election.
