The Wenatchee area's jobless numbers for December look pretty good . . . until you dig a little deeper. That's according to Regional Labor Economist Mark Berreth, who says the 8-point-5 percent unemployment rate is being skewed a bit by people dropping out of the job hunt:
The 8-point-5 December number is about a point and a half higher than November's 6-point-9 percent. Employment in the area saw a boost in leisure and travel sectors, but retail employment, with less of a holiday hiring boost, remained flat, and construction saw its usual decline.
