02/07/13 Obama Nominates REI Exec to US Interior Post (AUDIO)
President Barack Obama says he wants REI business executive Sally Jewell to lead his Interior Department. Jewell is the president and chief executive officer at REI, which sells clothing and gear for outdoor wear. The President said Jewell brings a balanced approach to public lands management . .
Jewell commented yesterday following the President's announcement at the White House.
Jewell is the first woman the president has nominated for his Cabinet in the second term. Obama noted her record of environmental stewardship at REI. If confirmed, Jewell would replace current Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who held the post throughout Obama's first term. 4th District Congressman Doc Hastings chairs the House Natural Resources Committee. Hastings says he hopes Jewell would be able to "balance the need for both the responsible use of energy, mineral, timber and water resources and conservation."
