12th District Senator Hawkins took on a remote hearing Wednesday morning focused on Senate Bill 5000, a bill focused on establishing a pilot project for the reduction of sales tax on purchases of fuel-cell electric vehicles.

"Basically, it's trying to get the state to extend the same sales tax incentive that's currently provided to battery electric vehicles, to extend that incentive to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles," said Senator Hawkins. "I think it's important for the state to be technology neutral."

According to Senator Hawkins, both vehicle types emit no carbon emissions.

Senate Bill 5000 was the first bill to be introduced in the legislature this year and one of the first bills to receive a hearing.
