Two men were rescued from a residential apartment fire early Saturday in Wenatchee. A third man was able to escape on his own according to Chelan County District 1 spokeswoman Kay McKellar.

Firefighters were dispatched to a two-story apartment building in the 600 block of Orondo Avenue about 2:15AM. Firefighters entered the smoke filled building's two upper floor units and found men in each unit and got them to safety. A third resident was living in a ground floor unit but had safely evacuated on his own.

McKellar said when crews arrived, there was smoke coming from the building and the RiverCom dispatchers could hear smoke alarms in the background when the fire was reported. The occupants of the apartment were treated with oxygen at the scene. The two upper floor units suffered extensive smoke damage and Red Cross provided housing assistance.

McKellar noted the fire was staffed primarily by off-duty firefighters who covered for volunteers and on-duty staff still out working the Colockum fire.
