Chelan County is working on getting some housing for people with coronavirus who are either homeless, or transitioning out of the hospital and need a place to stay.

Commissioner Kevin Overbay says they have a few beds with the expectation that they can get up to at least 150 working with multiple vendors.

"We'll hopefully be able to get that stood up with all the contracts as well as food delivery to those folks that cannot by for themselves. We should have that either by the end of this week or Monday at the very, very latest."

The County received grant funding of close to $900,000 to help pay for the work and are partnering with Douglas County to address the need in the area.

Overbay says they received a request for three rooms from the Health District though there are multiple ways to get in.

"We'll be working with the city of Wenatchee and the Housing Task Force to identify the folks that fall into that group whether it's homeless or sheltered that need to do that. Or through the Incident Command, the Health District and the medical providers to provide that information for those folks that need to come to that facility."

Overbay says they will be working with an area non-profit as part of the process.
