Brewster based hospital, Three Rivers, has added 3D mammograms to its mammography program with services beginning in mid-November. The new equipment is a Siemens machine.

"3D mammography is becoming the gold standard," said Nancy DeFord, mammography coordinator. "It is better technology, better imaging, fewer callbacks for patients, fewer false positives."

The hospital received a $50,000 grant from Philanthropy in Action and a $13,750 credit from Siemens. The remainder of the cost, roughly $206,000, will be paid over a 60 month lease.

"It is truly the Cadillac of 3D mammography," said DeFord.

Three Rivers is also offering diagnostic mammography and a teleconferencing feature with radiologists for same day results.

Patients interested in scheduling a mammogram can call he hospital at (509) 689-2517 ext. 3107.
