In the future, a new license plate may be available for Washington residents to highlight the state's leading agriculture commodity, apples, with the funds supporting the Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF). The Washington Apple Commission and Senator Brad Hawkins are proposing the new speciality license plate.

"The proposed license plate features the iconic Washington apple logo," said Toni Lynn Adams, communications outreach. "This is to recognize the Washington apple growers, the communities that are supported and involved in the Washington apple industry and a lot of the state's economy is tied into the apple industry."

The revenue from sales of the license plate would then be turned over to the industry's official charity, WAEF. The foundation provides scholarships, employment training and mentorship to students connected to the industry that are pursuing higher education.

Senator Hawkins will be introducing the bill in January 2020. For a new specialty license plate to be considered, 3,500 signatures must be collected in support.
