Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a motion in mid-June asking Douglas County Superior Court to dismiss two lawsuits against the state regarding the recently passed capital gains tax that is scheduled to go into effect in 2022.

In his motion, Ferguson says that none of the plaintiffs know if they will owe the tax, and that they are filing not for legal reasons, but for political purposes.

The two lawsuits were filed challenging the constitutionality of the law saying income taxes are not legal in Washington.

In Ferguson's motion, he asks that, if the judge is not willing to dismiss the claims, the case be moved to Thurston County.
