The Chelan County Sheriff's Office issued a reminder for interested boaters that folks are required by law to carry a boater education card before operating a boat.

"The criteria is if you operate a vessel with 15 horsepower or more, if you were born after January 1, 1955 or if you are 12 years of age or older," said Chief Jason Reinfeld.

To obtain a boater education card, visit the Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission's website. Chief Reinfeld added when COVID restrictions allow, the Chelan County Sheriff marine patrol will be hosting in person classes for a boater education card as well.

"Overall, the public is generally pretty compliant with this, but we want to ensure it remains that way," said Chief Reinfeld.
