A Douglas county resident is in jail after firing several shots at a group of hunters last week.

The group was hunting turkeys on a hillside owned by the PUD on the Bridgeport Bar near Highway 173. As they were hunting, a nearby resident began firing several shots that continued to get closer to their location.

According to Undersheriff Tyler Caille, a search warrant was served on the residence of 67-year-old Lyle Ostheller.

"It was public land that the hunters were on, and it was turkey season. So they were within their rights to be hunting where they were at," said Caille.

Ostheller was subsequently arrested and booked into the Okanogan County Jail for suspicion of assault in the 2nd degree.
