A fast moving brush fire developed Thursday afternoon in the 2700 block of Number Two Canyon Road above the Gun Club and spread slowly to about 125 acres to the top of the ridge with Number One Canyon.

The fire was first reported at 2:26 and was already at two acres when the first crews arrived. Fire officials are now calling the fire contained. No structures were damaged or lost.

The area near the fire in #2 Canyon is on a LEVEL 1 advisory for residents 1 mile up canyon and 1 mile down canyon of Gun Club, as well as all residents of Number One Canyon.

No. 2 Canyon Road in Wenatchee was closed temporarily to everyone but local traffic.

Deputy Chief Andy Davidson with Chelan County Fire District 1 said the fire prompted a third alarm response with crews from Chelan County 7, 8, Douglas #2, Bureau of Land Management, Dept. of Natural Resources.and U.S. Forest Service. Three helicopters and two fixed wing aircraft aided the effort.

Davidson said initial winds were gusty but were not posing much of a problem. Evening winds were expected to be a bit more challenging.

The cause is unknown but Davidson said the fire's proximity to the gun club suggested shooting activity may have been the source although an investigation will determine the actual cause.
