The Community for the Advancement of Family Education (CAFE) is displaying almost 150 white flags on Mission Street to commemorate those in the area who have died from COVID-19 so far.

CAFE Executive Director Alma Chacon said with many in the Latino community celebrating Dia de los Muertos soon, it is important this year to recognize those lost to COVID as well as in general.

"I think it has been very hard, especially on people that were not able to go to the hospitals and be with their loved ones when they were sick, some of them dying," said Chacon.

Each of the 148 white flags, which come with a flower and ribbon, are supposed to represent a person in the area who has died of COVID. Chacon adds that she hopes the spectacle will remind people how serious COVID is, and how unnecessary many of the deaths are.
