The city of Cashmere has been offered a 15,000 grant from the Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority for design and engineer work on city owned property located on Railroad Avenue. In conjunction with the grant, the city of Cashmere will need to match the grant with $15,000 to put toward the a little over half acre piece of land.

"We have a piece of property along the Burlington Northern railroad tracks on Railroad Avenue, across from our city shops," said Mayor Jim Fletcher. "The one problem with the land is that there's no water or wastewater utility connected to the land, so it's hard to develop land without utilities.

The funding would be put toward hiring an engineering firm which would then result in determining the total cost of the design project.

"What we want to do is a feasibility engineering report to find the most efficient way to hook up sewer and water to that property. So that then it becomes valuable land right here in the heart of town to be developed," said Mayor Fletcher.

The city council and mayor will discuss the funding at Monday evening's council meeting.
