Chelan County and Washington State Department of Natural Resources have formed a partnership to use grant funding toward forestry management for the Nason Creek and Stemilt areas. The county will take over ownership of the Nason Creek area in October and has been managing the Stemilt area for almost a decade.

The communities that benefit from the management include the Upper Stemilt and Upper Wenatchee areas.

"Both of them are locally based, community forests that are managed for timber production, recreation and water management and other features that are important to those communities," said Commissioner Bob Bugert.

A citizen committee provides oversight and contributes recommendations to the county commissioners. The funding will support the community committees. The committees apply the funding toward studies.
