Chelan County is in the process of improving safety features at the Chelan County Regional Justice Center and the Juvenile Justice Center. The Chelan County Regional Justice Center is set to receive a touchscreen access control and intercom system to improve the holding facility as well the communication system.

"Right now, [the communication system] is pretty antiquated and the adult guests [at the jail] can't hear directions being given by staff and staff can't hear responses," said Commissioner Kevin Overbay.

The Juvenile Justice Center will be receiving a similar set of upgrades, including a camera update which is similar to the regional jail's former improvement. The camera system will be connected to allow personnel to monitor both facilities from one point.

"We're doing some control room upgrades as well in the juvenile facility that would allow us to, should our control room in the jail go down, we'd be actually able to monitor the jail from the juvenile facility as well," said Overbay.

The county is planning to install a new roof at the CCRJC as well.
