Chelan Fire District No. 5, otherwise known as the Manson Volunteer Fire Association, recently made a new addition to its fleet with a Bronto Tower Ladder Truck. The new addition, Tower 51, is a 100' tower for firefighters to operate from a platform bucket in the air.

"We have a truck in like new condition for a considerable cost savings and this is really going to serve our community well," said Chief Arnold Baker.

The district opted to look at the used market because aerial trucks are typically expensive and decided on the Bronto style. This style can articulate to get things into tighter places.

"A brand new one costs $1.3 million and we found one 19 years old for $150,000. So quite a cost savings to our citizens," said Arnold. "I looked at their policies, how they trained with it and I thought this was an excellent condition truck."

Tower 51 comes from New York, about 30 miles up the Hudson River from New York City. Its former home was at a volunteer department with a community half the size of Manson.
