Firefighters from Chelan County Fire District 3 as well as Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue battled a structure fire in a outbuilding in the 15000 block of Chumstick Highway just after noon Wednesday.

Assistant Chief Glenn Brautaset stated that the homeowner had previously been using a lawnmower and put it away in the shed about an hour before the blaze, likely causing the fire. When firefighters arrived, the 25 by 25 foot shed was fully engulfed.

The flames also caused a small grass fire nearby.

"We're just lucky that we've had all the recent rain." Brautaset said, "If this fire would have came in a few weeks ago, or a few weeks from now, we would probably be in a much different spot. The fire would have most likely extended into the mountain and around the adjacent area."

It took a couple of hours to extinguish the fire due to a lot of hay and other material in the shed.

There were no injuries and no other structures were threatened.
