One climber died while another was rescued May 30th on Dragontail Peak southwest of Leavenworth.

Chelan County Sheriff's Office Chief Jason Reinfeld said they received a call around 4:45 pm from the International Emergency Response Center that a Garmin beacon notification indicated a climber had taken a big fall on the serpentine route.

The fall victim, a 31-year-old man, was eventually located by a Chelan County Sheriff's Department helicopter. A Snohomish County Sheriff's Office helicopter with hoist capabilities was then called in and the injured climber was flown out to the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery. He was pronounced dead once the the vehicle landed.

Chelan County Mountain Rescue members rappelled to the stranded climber and helped him get back to the trailhead by about 4:30 am the next day. The entire incident lasted about 12 hours.
