8th District Representative Dr. Kim Schrier gave her reaction Monday to Washington State's new COVID restrictions as well as what's being done in Washington D.C.

With the House currently back in session, Congresswoman Schrier said most to all of the members of her caucus want a new COVID relief deal. Negotiations among legislators have largely stalled for months. She stated House Democrats have been pushing since May to get more help for businesses and the unemployed.

Schrier said, "(Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi) will have a call from me today to talk about just this. That as the country is going through a new phase of clamp-downs, for the public good, we need to make sure we do our part to make sure our economy does not fall apart."

As for a skinny package preferred by many Republicans, especially those in the Senate, Schrier seemed to indicate she'd accept the legislation provided it addressed certain issues.

"My feeling all along is that we cannot let perfect be the enemy of good." Schrier continued, "I would be very happy to have a narrower package that has enhanced unemployment, relief for small businesses, and generous funding to state and local governments."

Representative Schrier also commented on Washington State's new COVID-19 restrictions that were announced by Governor Jay Inslee Sunday.

The Sammamish Democrat said that, from a scientific and public health standpoint, there was no question Inslee's restrictions were the right thing to do. Dr. Schrier added that the basis for all these restrictions is that COVID is primarily an airborne disease, so while disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer may help, those measures are no match for limiting your time inside with others and wearing a mask.
