Chelan County Public Works announced a contractor will be tackling the work to replace the failing stormwater pipe on South Wenatchee Avenue next Monday, October 21. The stormwater pipe, near Boodry Street, will have about 650 feet replaced.

The project is expected to take 20 working days and will cause two portions of the road to be closed at separate phases. The work being sliced in half to alleviate the impact on travelers.

"We will have some detours in place on South Wenatchee Avenue so it shouldn't effect traffic too bad," said Jill FitzSimmons, public information officer.

The first closure will be from Squilchuck Creek to Boodry Street. The second closure will move up past Boodry Street to Malaga Highway.

After heavy rains this summer brought sinkholes to form, the deteriorating pipe issue and the urgency of the issue was exposed. Chelan County Commissioners awarded the contract to J&K Earthworks of Rock Island for $207,853.
