With Governor Inslee releasing his plan for contact tracing Tuesday, Dr. Malcolm Butler, Chief Medical Officer with CVCH, says it's important to know what it is and what it isn't.

It starts with a call to someone who tests positive.

"The idea is to find out from whom you may have gotten the infection. It is also to find out to whom you may have passed the infection. That way we can jump on it and corral it and stop it from spreading to other people."

At that point, the person's name can be kept anonymous and other information is voluntary.

Dr. Butler says it's an important tool in helping fight against the spread of COVID-19.

"This is not really scary in anyway. Actually I think we should all be about 100 times more concerned about Amazon and Google and all they know about us than we are about contact tracing."

Dr. Butler says currently school nurses are the ones calling.
