The Washington State Department of Health reminds folks that being COVID-19 conscious this Halloween is a necessary evil, however there is still some proactive tips to stay safe while participating in the fun.

DOH suggests keeping up with the habits we've already formed on Halloween, such as wearing a face mask covering, both indoors and outdoors.

"If you have a Halloween mask on, that's not enough," said Cory Portner, spokesperson. "So finding a safe way to attach a cloth face covering is still really helpful. It could even include that face covering into the costume itself."

For those considering whether to trick or treat or stay indoors to avoid the chilly weather, DOH advises to avoid confined spaces.

"Outdoor activities are safer than indoor activities," said Portner. "If you're indoors, make sure there's proper ventilation, open windows to get fresh air in."

DOH suggests avoiding close contact with people outside, including trick or treaters. Portner reminds folks to make sure hands are continuously washed, particularly kiddos.
