A handful of Badger Mountain residents are rallying to appeal to neighbors and Douglas County commissioners to stop solar panel farms from being established on Badger Mountain. Three companies are mulling over the installation of solar panel farms on Badger Mountain.

Lorianna Breiler, Badger Mountain resident, has been approached by two companies. According to Breiler, nearby neighbors, also considered the Badger Mountain community, had no idea that there was a potential for solar panel farms.

"When they approached, we had no idea what they were looking for...but they actually want between 4,000 to 6,000 acres of agricultural land, wildlife habitat and CRP (Conservation Reserve Program)," said Breiler.

Douglas County commissioners lifted a moratorium on renewable energy companies and approved a new set of rules for alternative energy projects in July.
