A quarter acre fire in Dryden kept fire crews busy Wednesday morning after a report from Main Street of a brush fire at around 4 a.m. According to Chelan County Fire District 6 Chief Phil Mosher, the fire ended up being along the ditch bank of the canal that runs underneath the school district property where the baseball fields are located.

"It did torch an 80 foot pine tree that was pretty spectacular and got everyone pretty nervous," said Chief Mosher.

The cause is still under investigation, however it is believed to be started by an irrigation pump motor that may have seized up and burned down a pump house near the canal. The fire then spread to pine needles and other vegetation near the ditch bank.

Crews left the scene at about 10:30 a.m.
