The city of East Wenatchee is expecting roughly $411,000 from the CARES Act. East Wenatchee hasn't received the funding, however it's been earmarked for the city.

East Wenatchee City Council will deliberate how to spend the funds with suggestions provided by the city. According to Mayor Jerrilea Crawford, council has expressed a desire for some of the funding to go to a business.

"We'll probably be working with (Chelan Douglas Regional) Port Authority, they had already established some micro grants and have already developed an application process for that," said Mayor Crawford. "I think they have 300 applications or more, there's obviously a significant need there that they've already identified...so we'd like to contribute some of our funds to that to get businesses up and running again and people back employed."

Funding has also been discussed being put toward food, such as food banks or mobile meals, and housing assistance.

"We haven't specifically outlined how much is going to those specific categories. We're also still learning with that money, how we can spend it, if we're supposed to spend it first and be reimbursed later," said Mayor Crawford.

The city of East Wenatchee has a council meeting on Tuesday, May 19 with a public hearing. Council members will be looking for input on the CARES Act funding during the hearing.
