The East Wenatchee Police Department have plans to start up internal training now that 2021 has begun. Staff will be trained on a variety of aspects for 35 continuing education hours.

"That will include training topics like de escalation, crisis intervention, first aid, use of force, firearms training, response to active shooters and some other topics as well," said Chief Rick Johnson.

The direction for the internal training comes from Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. As the department works through the accreditation process for the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, the department has to prove they have an internal training program in place.

"Here's your records of it, here's the topics you train on and how long you've been doing it," said Chief Johnson. "We have to get those programs up and running. As we go through the accreditation process, we have to show that we've been doing it."
