East Wenatchee Police Chief Rick Johnson recently made the announcement he has selected Erik Hampton from the Yakima Police Department. Hampton will start in the role next month with over two decades of law enforcement experience under his belt.

"He's been with them (Yakima Police Department) for 22 years and he is currently a sergeant with their gangs crime investigation unit," said Chief Rick Johnson.

According to Chief Johnson, Hampton has had experience in a variety of departments including property crime detective, homicide detective and a SWAT team leader.

"Erik comes highly recommended from the Yakima Police Department. When you fill these positions, it's a unique process in being they're appointed positions," said Chief Johnson. "They're not part of the union, they don't run through the civil service process."
