Douglas County Fire District 2 and Chelan County Fire District 1 responded to a commercial structure fire at an East Wenatchee townhouse on Monday afternoon. The fire was contained to a single unit at the Eastmont Townhomes, located at the corner of Eastmont Avenue and Sixth Street.

According to Douglas County Fire Marshal, Kurt Blanchard, right at dispatch heavy smoke was showing.

"Flames were coming out of the back of the single family unit," said Blanchard. "Crews quickly responded due to the close proximity. Firefighters made entry and quickly extinguished the flame."

There were two occupants, one adult and one child, but they both made it out safely and tended to by EMS. According to Blanchard, the duo was also taken to Central Washington Hospital for evaluation. As of Tuesday morning, there was no update on any potential injuries or condition.

Although the fire was contained to a single unit, other units were impacted by the smoke.

"But all in all, that fire was contained to the singular unit and normalcy in the adjacent units was quickly returned so it was a positive outcome even though there was a loss of a structure," said Blanchard.
