From a Press Release - A 61-year-old Ephrata man was killed in a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon east of Quincy.

Kelly D. Norris was driving a 2009 Honda Accord around 3 p.m.when his vehicle collided with a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 32-year-old Genaro Vazquez Visoso of Royal City.

Deputies say Vazquez was driving south on Road K-Northwest at high speed and failed to stop at the intersection with Road 9-Northwest, colliding with Norris who was driving east on Road 9. Both vehicles came to rest in a field southeast of the intersection, and Vazquez's car caught fire.

Passersby were able to remove Vazquez from the wreckage and pull him to safety. Vazquez suffered critical injuries and was taken by ambulance to Quincy Valley Medical Center, then later transferred to an out of area hospital for treatment.

Norris died at the scene. His body is in the care of Coroner Craig Morrison whose staff will conduct and autopsy.

The sheriff's Motor Traffic Unit is investigating.
